Atrium Valschermkade 36 Amsterdam

A film producer and an architect bougth a former steel workshop together and transformed it into an office building for their companies. The building consists of two storeys surrounding an atrium.

The outside world is brought inside through a large concrete table with integrated pots that simultaneously support the table top. In these pots a mix of small and large plants create a lush setting for informal meetings, eating lunch and parties. Even indoor, some of the trees continue to be animated by seasonal changes by blossoming and shedding their leaves.

With its Table Garden the atrium becomes the centre piece of the building; a tableau vivant to be followed all year around.
